look at me is a collection of found photos either lost, forgotton or thrown away. now namelessand haunting, yet somehow familiar, they give us an anonymous look back at our past.

this was a great read, in that refreshing, reinvigorating, reenforcing sort-of way. it was listed as "tips for recent grads" but i think it applies to both old and new...

"The movement members were not happy that I had joined them. I had not brought food, only a camera, and I was there to take pictures. I was the only media photographer to enter the church since the siege began."
L.A. Times photographer Carolyn Cole gives a first-hand account, through words and pictures, of being the only member of the media inside the church of the nativity in bethlehem during the seige -- and surviving.

"There is this famous experiment with frogs where if you take a frog and place it in a pan with water sitting on a stove, and then heat the water slowly until it boils, the frogs will eventually die in the boiling water having never jumped out of the pan. However if you take a frog and place it in that same pan containing already very hot water, the frog will jump out immediately and save itself from being fried to death. "
The Story of the Frogs and the Titanic is an interesting look at the ever-changing face of photo technology.

i love the minds of people who have too much time on their hands, like this guy:
"I'm just itching to buy a really good digital camera, but until they become cheap enough for me to just buy one as a toy, I wanted something digital camera like to play with. I started playing around with my flatbed scanner to see if I could capture images of stuff around it, by holding the scanner in my hand and rotating it as it scanned. This allowed the focusing lens in the scanner to pick up some of the light from the surroundings...
there's some great new documentary stuff up at www.photodocument.pl.
"I don't want to approach this man with anger," says Yola Monakhov, who was shot and nearly killed 18 months ago on the outskirts of Bethlehem "I do want to confront him with what he has done to me. ...I want to get a sense of his reaction, what he is feeling when he sees me. Of course it would be nice for him to feel sorry." [link via Jim Romenesko's MediaNews]
